Hartenstein Diamonds

The Schoenburg-Hartenstein family comes from Schoenburgland in Saxony, in central Germany. The historic County of Hartenstein formed part of territories shaped for centuries by mining and precious materials.

In the early nineteenth century, the Schoenburg-Hartenstein family established its Austrian chapter in Vienna. For Alex and Selma, this is family history rather than a heritage story created for a brand.

Hartenstein gave us a history in precious materials. Vienna shaped our cultural language.

Ben and Charlotte's story begins with diamonds. They met while studying at the German Gemmological Association, then moved to Antwerp to join Ajediam, an established Antwerp diamond and jewellery manufacturer.

Both are FEEG-qualified graduate gemmologists and diamond graders, and members of the Antwerpsche Diamantkring, Antwerp's historic diamond bourse.

Antwerp is not a provenance line. It is where our diamond knowledge comes from.

Alex and Selma bring the Hartenstein and Vienna story. Ben and Charlotte bring professional gemmological knowledge and decades lived inside Antwerp's diamond world.

Hartenstein Diamonds is where those histories meet: a European house with an Antwerp atelier, and jewellery made for the person who will wear it.

We did not choose lab-grown diamonds to make cheaper versions of conventional fine jewellery. We chose them because they give us greater freedom to design.

They allow us to work more freely with scale, repetition and diamond presence: to use restraint when restraint makes a piece stronger, and to be generous with diamonds when the design calls for it.

For us, a lab-grown diamond is not a compromise. It is a material with extraordinary optical properties placed at the service of design.

We do not grow our diamonds ourselves. We know how to choose them.

More than twenty years in the diamond business have given our Antwerp team an established network of specialist suppliers and the experience to know what to look for.

Cut, clarity and colour matter, but so do proportions, diameter, depth, symmetry, spread and light performance. That is why we select diamonds with the jewel already in mind.

For diamonds supplied with an individual grading report, we work with recognised independent gemmological laboratories whose reports identify the stone and document its relevant characteristics.

Certification provides independent information about a diamond. It does not replace our own selection.

We do not ask a lab-grown diamond to tell a story about geological rarity. We ask what it can do for the jewel.

Every Hartenstein Diamonds piece is created and crafted at our atelier at Hoveniersstraat 19, 2018 Antwerp, in the heart of the city's diamond district.

We do not hand our jewellery over to anonymous third-party manufacturers. Keeping the jewellery-making process within our atelier gives us direct control over proportion, structure, setting, gold weight, fit, finishing and final quality.

Made on demand is not simply how we manage inventory. It is how we make better jewellery.

Some Hartenstein pieces are classic because certain forms deserve to endure. Others are sculptural, personal, diamond-rich or deliberately unexpected.

We design around proportion: how a jewel sits on the body, how diamonds create rhythm, where volume belongs, when a polished surface should remain untouched and when a piece deserves to command attention.

If a design calls for restraint, we do not make it louder. If it calls for presence, we do not make it timid.
